FOR THE LOVE OF OUR GRANDCHILDREN
TO PROTECT THE LOVE AND TENDERNESS THAT GRANDCHILDREN AND GRANDPARENTS HAVE FOR EACH OTHER
is the essence of our mission

Serving the grandmothers and grandfathers of Quebec!

Our mission

The Grandparents' Association of Québec (ADGPQ) helps them. It defends their rights and those of their grandchildren in order to maintain the relationship as well as the emotional and family ties. It also aims to reinforce the recognition of the precious role of grandparents in Québec society.

Our role

  • Accompany and direct grandparents to professionals or resources that can help them in case of family disputes
  • Support grandparents who are experiencing various problems and difficult relationships through various activities and our specialized hotline
  • Raise awareness among government authorities about the need to maintain family ties between grandparents and their grandchildren
  • Unite the greatest number of grandparents in Quebec around the various political issues that affect them and defend their interests with the Quebec government
  • To deploy communication actions aimed at reinforcing the recognition of the essential role of grandparents in Quebec society.

Our values

  • Respect, empathy and benevolence towards others
  • Mutual aid, collaboration and cooperation
  • Conviction and determination

These are essential values that we convey in our daily lives and that we believe Quebec society should demonstrate with respect to grandparents and the family bond they must maintain with their grandchildren.

Our achievements

The DPJ of the Eastern Townships blamed for not entrusting the children to the grandparents(July 16, 2021)

History

Our association was founded in 1990 by Mrs. Lucienne Beaudet-St-Gelais in collaboration with a group of grandparents from Beauport. Its objective? To represent and defend the rights of grandparents in the region. For thirteen years, she directed and animated all the activities of the organization. In 2004, our organization decided to extend its interventions to the national level and took the name of : The Grandparents' Association of Québec.

The ADGPQ extended its action to reach the greatest number of grandparents throughout Quebec by setting up a toll-free listening line and a website. It then set up various activities in the agglomerations of Quebec City and Montreal, activities that were gradually extended to most regions of Quebec.

In 2019, the Secrétariat à l'action communautaire autonome et aux initiatives sociales (SACAIS) recognized the ADGPQ as a national organization in collective defense of rights.
